Ethnography of the Owens Valley Paiute (Steward)

Julian H. Steward's Ethnography of the Owens Valley Paiute (1933) is a foundational early description of Nüümü life in Payahuunadü. It documents settlement, food and irrigation, technology, social organization, and ceremony in detail, and remains one of the most cited sources on the people of the Owens Valley.

Like all of Steward's work, it was written by an outside anthropologist in the 1930s, so its framing reflects its time.
