Owens Valley Paiute Shoshone Cultural Center
The Owens Valley Paiute Shoshone Cultural Center is a museum and gathering place operated by the Bishop Paiute Tribe, established in 1978. It preserves and celebrates the heritage of the Nüümü (Paiute) and Newe (Shoshone) peoples of the Owens Valley.
The center houses exhibits on the art and lifeways of the two peoples, a memorial hall honoring Native American veterans, a native garden and walking trail, and a gift shop carrying locally-made crafts and publications. It hosts year-round cultural events, including the spring and fall pinenut blessings and seasonal gatherings. For visitors and researchers alike, it is a place to encounter the culture in person rather than only on the page.
